Angela Mulrooney started her movement training at three years of age doing gymnastics with her best friend in her backyard in Ottawa, Ontario. She continued to study gymnastics until university in 1998 where she discovered ballroom dancing. While earning her DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) at the University of Saskatchewan, she started teaching for the U of S Ballroom Dance Club. Before long she was competing at the professional level in American Rhythm and placed 6th in Canada.
Her careers in dentistry and dance brought her to Calgary in 2005 where she continued to practice the two loves of her life. She was taken on by a professional contemporary dance company (La Caravan Dance Theatre) and circus company (Velocity Motion Werks) where she did aerial silk, contortion, and trapeze. She was able to practice dentistry, dance, and circus full-time.
In 2009 she purchased a dental practice and shifted her focus for the next few years while continuing her dance studies in ballroom, salsa, bachata, kizomba, and Argentine tango. Unfortunately, in 2013, she sustained a career ending injury that devastated her right hand and forced her out of dental practice. For rehabilitative purposes, she returned to a vigorous ballroom training regimen and on the path to doing so, she became vice-champion in Senior I at the Canadian Closed Championships in 2015 with her partner Michael Currie, winning a berth to represent Canada at the World Championships in Spain for December 2015.
In March of 2015, she opened Unleashed Dance Company and in June of 2015 sold her dental practice. Since then, she has dedicated herself to a full-time pursuit of dance. The launch of Unleashed was done with the endeavour to share with the Alberta & Canadian dance community her vast knowledge of dance, kinesiology, and anatomy while creating a fun and safe learning environment. Join her on the Unleashed journey.
